Class Description: Fundamentals of Art
(30 weeks, Sept-May)
The Fundamentals of Art Program is a developmental program allowing participants to build on what they learn from class to class. Our small classes and program planning ensure continuity of instruction and nurture individual student development. Students enjoy the challenges and joys of creating “original” works of art while developing observation and problem-solving skills.
We will begin with drawing, using right-brain techniques. Next, we will move on to a brief discussion of famous artists in history and a study of color and color relationships. We will learn the basic methods of painting, and we will finish the year with projects using mixed media, printmaking, clay work, and three-dimensional art. Students will be challenged to think creatively, make decisions, follow instructions, manage their time, and clean up their materials.
Students will also be required to keep a sketchbook/journal to apply newly learned knowledge/skills, imagination, and observations in and beyond the classroom. This class may require home assignments of approximately 1 hour.
CLASS FEES INCLUDES high-quality artist’s materials, including paint, paint brushes, canvas paper & boards, a storage box, and use of studio mediums, supplies, and a studio smock. (Instructor is not responsible for replenishing used up or lost supplies).
